A couple of days before I flew out, a new 'toy' arrived in the mail - a large octogon light modifier (24"). I brought this with me, used it for the first time, and was thrilled with the results.
This conference had a couple of 'firsts' for me - I was allowed to take flash photography in all the sessions, and the photography policy allowed me to take photographs without prior consent of the attendees. This policy allowed me to capture the most compelling thing about conferences - 'hallway con'; the interactions between participants outside of sessions. While setting up my large light modifier was challenging (particularly as I was recovering from a broken foot), I'm incredibly pleased at the quality of light I was able to shine onto the speakers and trainers.
